FAQ

How often will I need to volunteer?

We ask that regular volunteers commit to volunteering a minimum of 12 times per year. Many of our volunteers work 2-4 hours per week, and other volunteers work 2-4 hours once or twice a month. We also have special events 2-3 times a year, in which many community volunteers are needed. We always appreciate any dedicated volunteers who wish to give more time.

What days and times are volunteer opportunities?

We have volunteer opportunities available seven days a week. If you wish to work in the Pantry when it is open, those shifts are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday 9:45-12:15 and Tuesday and Thursday 2:45-6:15. Other activities occur at various times throughout the day and week.

How long of a commitment do I need to make?

We ask regular volunteers to commit to one year with the Pantry. We make exceptions for special circumstances such as students and group volunteers.

Do I need any special background to volunteer?

We provide training for each of our volunteer opportunities, so you do not need any special background. Some tasks require specific skills, such as computer skills for entering records or the ability to lift heavy boxes. However, the only general requirement is a caring and positive attitude toward other volunteers and the families we serve.

How old do I have to be to volunteer?

Children and youth of all ages are welcome to work on special projects or support services. Youth who work when the Pantry is open must be in 6th grade or above. As noted above, special circumstances for youth and student volunteers may require special arrangements.
